  1. Take 1 cup chana dal
  2. Make ready 2 tbsp finely chopped Spring onion
  3. Make ready 1 onion finely chooped
  4. Make ready 5 garlic cloves
  5. Take 1 Green chilli
  6. Take 1 inch ginger
  7. Get 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  8. Prepare 1 tsp Dry mango powder
  9. Take 1 tsp cumin seeds
  10. Take 1 tsp fennel seeds
  11. Prepare to taste Salt
  12. Make ready 1 tbsp gram flour
  13. Make ready Pinch asafoetida
  14. Take as needed Oil for frying
Steps to make Chana dal pakora:
  1. Take in a large bowl 1 cup of chana dal. Wash the chana dal 2-3 times or until water runs clear. soak chana dal for 2 hours.
  2. Drain off the water and keep aside. Make sure there is no water in the dal. transfer the soaked & drained chana dal into mixi also add garlic, ginger and green chilli.
  3. Blend to a coarse paste if necessary add little water.
  4. Now transfer the chana dal paste to a large mixing bowl. further add spring onion,onion, cumin seeds, Asafoetida, red chilli powder, fennel, gram flour and salt and combine them well.mix the batter very well.
  5. Heat oil in a pan or kadai to fry the pakoda. Take a small portion of the batter either with hands or with a spoon and put it into the pan. Put 5-6 as many pakoda as you can at one time.cooked, turn over with a slotted spoon and continue to fry.
  6. Deep fry on a medium flame.fry till they become crisp and golden brown.
  7. Drain out on paper towel for excess oil to be absorbed. - Fry all the pakodas in the same manner.
  8. Garnish with some spring onion and Serve immediately with green chutney and tomato sauce.
