  20. Get 1/4 cup milk
  21. Take 1/2 tsp sugar
  22. Get 1/4 tsp black pepper powder
  23. Make ready 3-4 saffron strands

Be the first to rate & review! A soft, lush, cheeselike mascarpone adds a wonderful silkiness to this fast, fresh tomato-and-herb sauce. Avoid fresh cheeses like fromage blanc , lebneh and quark, which might be too tart to add to the already slightly tangy. Quantities are not critical here - this is really more of a method than a precise recipe.

Steps to make Tomato basil tarts with creamy saffron sauce:
  1. For the short crust pastry dough: In a mixing bowl sift in all purpose flour and salt.
  2. Now add butter cubes. (Butter should be right out of the refrigerator, it should not be softened)
  3. Mix in butter with the fingertips untill the mixture starts looking like fine bread crumbs.
  4. Now add 2-3 tbsp cold water and knead a firm dough. Once done wrap in a cling film and chill for 1 hour.
  5. After one hour, take out the dough from the refrigerator, preheat your oven at 180°C and grease the tart moulds with oil.
  6. Roll the chilled dough on a floured surface.
  7. Cut out a circle with a cookie cutter. Press the dough into each mould till the edge and cut off the rest.
  8. Repeat the same process for making rest of the tarts.
  9. Bake the tarts in preheated oven for 20 minutes for untill they are light brown in colour.
  10. Once done let them cool down completely.
  11. Meanwhile prepare the filling: In a bowl take fresh cream, add minced garlic, red chilli flakes, oregano, black pepper, salt and mix it well and keep aside.
  12. After a minute add sugar and pepper mix it and switch off the flame. Keep in refrigerator to chill.
  13. Once the tarts are cooled down spread a layer of grated mozzarella cheese.
  14. Add 2 tbsp of the prepared filling from top then layer with some cherry tomatoes and basil leaves.
  15. Bake the tarts again at 170°C for 5 mins.
  16. Serve them with chilled saffron sauce.

Avoid fresh cheeses like fromage blanc , lebneh and quark, which might be too tart to add to the already slightly tangy. Quantities are not critical here - this is really more of a method than a precise recipe. It's made with a vegan creamy cashew pasta sauce, roasted veggies, and fresh basil.
